بِاسْمِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
اَللّٰهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Surah al-Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq, Surah an-Nas and Ayat al-Kursi are also recited.
Bi-smika llāhumma amūtu wa-aḥyā.
Allāhumma bi-smika amūtu wa-aḥyā.
O Allah, in Your name I die (sleep) and I come to life again (wake).

Narrated by Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him). (Sahih al-Bukhari, Da'awat 7/6314; Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 56/2710)
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to his bed he would say, 'Bismika llāhumma amūtu wa-aḥyā.' And when he woke he would say, 'Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi lladhī aḥyānā baʿda mā amātanā wa-ilayhi n-nushūr'" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Da'awat 7).
The duas and adhkar it is sunnah to recite before sleeping: Ayat al-Kursi (once — an angel guards the one who recites it until morning, Sahih al-Bukhari), reciting al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas into the palms and wiping them over the body (three times, Sahih al-Bukhari, Tibb 39), the last two ayat of Surah al-Baqarah (al-Baqarah 285-286, Sahih al-Bukhari, Maghazi 12), "Bismika llāhumma amūtu wa-aḥyā" (once), 33 tasbih, 33 tahmid, 34 takbir.
Sleep is a lesser death. Whoever recites these duas on going to bed earns the reward of one who has died upon faith, and is protected until morning.
O Allah, in Your name I sleep and in Your name I wake. Guard our souls while we sleep, and when we close our eyes keep our hearts firm upon faith. Make our dreams good. Wake us in the morning upon faith, health and gratitude, O Lord. Amin.
