اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا لَا رِيَاءَ فِيهِ وَلَا سُمْعَةَ
Allāhumma ijʿalhu ḥajjan mabrūran lā riyāʾa fīhi wa-lā sumʿah.
O Allah! Make this hajj an accepted hajj, in which there is no ostentation and no showing off.
Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 2890 (hasan (good) hadith).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it on the journey of the Farewell Hajj. Source: Osman Nuri Topbaş, Hz. Muhammed Mustafa 2, Erkam Yayınları.
A mabrur hajj is a hajj performed free of sin and accepted by Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The reward of a mabrur hajj is nothing but Paradise" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Umrah 1; Sahih Muslim, Hajj 437). Riya (ostentation) and sum'ah (seeking a reputation) are two great afflictions that spoil every act of worship. In this dua, protection from these two in particular is requested.
Before setting out for hajj, debts should be paid, forgiveness should be sought from others, bequests should be made, and one should set out with lawful money.
O Allah! Make this hajj of mine accepted. Let there be no showing off or seeking of reputation in it. Grant me a hajj performed with a sincere intention and free of sin. Make it a mabrur (accepted) hajj, O Lord. Amin.
