رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Between Black Stone and Yemeni Corner:
Rabbanā ātinā fi'd-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fi'l-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāba'n-nār.
Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter. Protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (al-Baqarah 201)
Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 1892 (sahih hadith).
Narrated by Abdullah ibn as-Saʾib (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this dua during tawaf between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Manasik 50/1892; Musnad Ahmad III/411)
Abdullah ibn as-Saʾib (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing tawaf, between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone he would say, 'Rabbanā ātinā fi'd-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fi'l-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāba'n-nār'" (Sunan Abi Dawud, Manasik 50/1892).
Tawaf is to circle the Kaaba seven times. Different duas may be recited in each circuit; however, reciting this ayah between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone is a sunnah.
In the other parts of the tawaf the pilgrim may recite whatever dua he wishes. Verses of the Qur'an, the duas of the Prophet, or requests in one's own language are all permissible. What matters in tawaf is that the heart is in a state of humility and turned toward Allah.
After the tawaf it is a sunnah to perform a two-rakah salah (prayer) behind the Station of Ibrahim.
Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter. Protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Accept this tawaf of ours and forgive our sins. Let us taste the honour of circling the House of Allah, O Lord. Amin.
