Here I am, O Allah, here I am! I am at Your command, here I am! You have no partner, here I am! Truly praise belongs to You and blessing is Yours. The dominion too is Yours. You have no partner.
Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1549 (sahih hadith).
Narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hajj 26/1549; Sahih Muslim, Hajj 19/1184; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Hajj 17/826)
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered into ihram he would pronounce the talbiyah thus: 'Labbayka'llāhumma labbayk...'" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hajj 26/1549; Sahih Muslim, Hajj 19/1184).
The talbiyah is the emblem of the hajj. It begins to be recited when ihram is entered at the miqat point and continues until the stones are cast at the Jamrat al-Aqabah. The talbiyah is repeated at every ascent to high ground, at every descent, at every meeting with a new group, and morning and evening.
The word "labbayk" means "I am at Your command, here I am." It is Allah who invites to the hajj, and the pilgrim answers that invitation by saying "labbayk." It is the echo of the call to hajj made by Ibrahim (peace be upon him) (al-Hajj 27).
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no Muslim who pronounces the talbiyah but that the stones, the trees and the earth to his right and to his left pronounce it along with him" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Hajj 14/828).
O Allah! I have come before You in answer to Your call; here I am, at Your command. You have no partner; praise, blessing and dominion belong to You. Make this hajj free of sin and accepted. Forgive us by Your mercy and cover our faults. Accept our hajj, and grant us to answer Your call again and again, O Lord. Amin.
