Transliteration

Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar. Lā ilāha illā llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah. Lahu l-mulku wa-lahu l-ḥamdu wa-huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr. Āyibūna tāʾibūna ʿābidūna sājidūna li-Rabbinā ḥāmidūn. Ṣadaqa llāhu waʿdahu wa-naṣara ʿabdahu wa-hazama l-aḥzāba waḥdah.

Meaning

Allah is the Greatest (three times). There is no god but Allah. He is One; He has no partner. Sovereignty is His, and praise is His. He has power over all things. We are those who return from the journey, who repent, who worship, who prostrate, and who praise our Lord. Allah fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and alone routed the enemy armies.

Virtue
Virtue

Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from a military expedition or from hajj, he would say the takbir 'Allāhu akbar' three times each time he climbed a high hill. Then he would recite this dua" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Umrah 12/3085).

"It is recommended (mustahab) for those going to and returning from hajj or a military expedition, and for those on any other journey, to recite this takbir and dua whenever they climb a high hill or mountain" (Source: Mahmud Sami Ramazanoğlu, Dualar ve Zikirler, Erkam Yayınları).

The expression "āyibūna tāʾibūna" (those who return, those who repent) describes the state of a pilgrim who returns from hajj free of sin. If the hajj is accepted, the pilgrim returns as sinless as on the day his mother gave birth to him.
