Kaynak

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1753 (sahih hadith).

Narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say "Allāhu akbar" with each throw of a pebble. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hajj 139/1753; Sahih Muslim, Hajj 312/1296)

Virtue

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw pebbles at the jamarat, he would say 'Allāhu akbar' with each pebble" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hajj 139/1753; Sahih Muslim, Hajj 312/1296).

The stoning of the jamarat is performed in memory of Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) stoning of Satan. While Ibrahim was taking his son Isma'il (peace be upon him) to be sacrificed, Satan came before him in three places, and each time he stoned Satan. Pilgrims fulfil this sunnah, symbolically stoning Satan and defying him.

On the first day of the festival (10 Dhul-Hijjah), seven pebbles are thrown only at the Jamrat al-Aqabah. On the second, third and fourth days, seven pebbles each (twenty-one in total) are thrown at the small, middle and large jamarat. "Allāhu akbar" is said with each throw.

After the small and middle jamarat one stands for a while and makes dua. After the large jamarah (al-Aqabah) one does not stand.

Dua in English

O Allah! I throw these pebbles, keeping alive the sunnah of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). In defiance of Satan and his followers, I take refuge in You from his whisperings, his discord and his deception. Along with these pebbles, drive my sins far away too. Accept my hajj and protect us from the evil of Satan. Cleanse our hearts too of every kind of whispering, O Lord. Amin.
