The Night of Bara'ah is the fifteenth night of the month of Sha'ban. This night is the night of "bara'ah" (deliverance, being cleared). On this night Allah Most High deals with His servants with His mercy and forgiveness.

On the Night of Bara'ah, Surah Yasin is recited three times after the evening prayer, and the Bara'ah dua is recited at the end of each recitation. After the first Yasin it is recited with the intention of being among Allah's blessed servants, after the second with the intention of a long and good life, and after the third for safety from misfortune and calamity and for good provision.

The dua says: "O Allah! If You have written me in Your presence, in Umm al-Kitab, as wretched, or deprived, or driven away, or straitened in provision, then, O Allah, by Your grace and bounty erase my wretchedness, my deprivation, my being driven away and the scantiness of my provision. Write me in Your presence, in Umm al-Kitab, as a blessed servant, abundant in provision and granted success in good deeds."

On this night one hundred rak'ahs of voluntary prayer are also performed, with Surah al-Ikhlas recited ten times after al-Fatihah in each rak'ah.

Dua in English

O Allah! O Giver of favour, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour! Write me among the register of the good. Make my provision abundant and protect me from misfortune and calamity. Deliver me from wretchedness, from deprivation and from being driven away. On this blessed night I take refuge in Your forgiveness, O Lord. Amin.
