اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْأَبَدِيُّ الْقَدِيمُ الْحَيُّ الْكَرِيمُ الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ وَهٰذَا عَامٌ جَدِيدٌ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ نَسْأَلُكَ فِيهِ الْعِصْمَةَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَالْعَوْنَ عَلَى هٰذِهِ النَّفْسِ الْأَمَّارَةِ بِالسُّوءِ وَالْإِشْتِغَالَ بِمَا يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَيْكَ زُلْفَى يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Allāhumma anta l-abadiyyu l-qadīmu l-ḥayyu l-karīmu l-ḥannānu l-mannān. Wa hādhā ʿāmun jadīdun qad aqbala nasʾaluka fīhi l-ʿiṣmata mina sh-shayṭāni r-rajīmi wa l-ʿawna ʿalā hādhihi n-nafsi l-ammārati bi-s-sūʾi wa l-ishtighāla bimā yuqarribunī ilayka zulfā yā dhā l-jalāli wa l-ikrām. Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ālihī wa aṣḥābihī wa sallim.
O Allah! You are the Everlasting, the Eternal, the Ever-Living, the Most Generous, the Most Compassionate, the Bestower of favours. In this new year I ask You to protect me from the accursed Satan. I ask Your help against my lower self, which commands evil. I ask Your help so that I may occupy myself with the things that draw me near to You. O Possessor of Majesty and Honour! O Allah! Send blessings and peace upon Muhammad, upon his family and upon his Companions.

"It is narrated that whoever recites this dua three times in the morning during the first ten days of the month of Muharram — and especially on the first day and on the tenth, the Day of Ashura — Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, will keep that person safe and protected from all calamities right up to the month of Muharram of the coming year."
Six divine names appear in this dua: Abadi (everlasting), Qadim (pre-eternal), Hayy (ever-living), Karim (most generous), Hannan (most compassionate) and Mannan (abundant giver of blessings). Each of them emphasises Allah's exaltedness and the servants' need of Him.
The month of Muharram is the first month of the Hijri calendar and one of the most meritorious months in Islam. Reciting this dua during its first ten days is a means of being protected from calamities throughout the year.
O Allah! You are the Everlasting, the Eternal, the Ever-Living, the Most Generous, the Most Compassionate, the Bestower of favours. In this new year, protect me from the accursed Satan. Help me against the evil of my lower self. Occupy me with deeds that draw me near to You. O Allah, Possessor of Majesty and Honour, send blessings and peace upon Muhammad. Amin.
