Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends the night of Eid al-Fitr and the night of Eid al-Adha in worship, hoping for its reward from Allah, his heart will not die on the day when hearts die" (Sunan Ibn Majah, Siyam 68).

It is narrated that duas made sincerely on the nights of Eid are not rejected (Abd ar-Razzaq, al-Musannaf 4/317). On the nights of Eid it is recommended to perform missed and voluntary prayers, to recite the Qur'an, and to engage in tasbih, seeking forgiveness and dua.

The Eid takbirs are recited from the Day of Arafah until the fourth day of the festival (Eid al-Adha), or until the end of the Eid prayer (Eid al-Fitr). The takbir is said after the obligatory prayers.

Along with this takbir, what is to be done on the day of Eid is: to give charity, to visit relatives, to reconcile with those from whom one is estranged, to help the needy, and to thank Allah with the joy of the festival.

Dua in English

Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Him. Allah is the greatest, and all praise belongs to Him. Make our Eid blessed, grant us unity and togetherness, reconcile those who are estranged, and gladden the needy, O Lord. Amin.
