اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿadhābi jahannama wa min ʿadhābi l-qabri wa min fitnati l-maḥyā wa l-mamāti wa min sharri fitnati l-Masīḥi d-Dajjāl.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Masih ad-Dajjal.

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you has finished the Tahiyyat (the Tashahhud), let him seek refuge in Allah from four things: from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Dajjal." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Adhan 149, 832; Sahih Muslim, Masajid 588; Sunan an-Nasa'i, Sahw 64)
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When one of you has finished the Tahiyyat (the Tashahhud), let him without fail seek refuge in Allah from four things" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Adhan 832). This hadith shows that reciting this dua after the Tahiyyat in the prayer is an emphasised sunnah (sunnah muakkadah). Our Prophet both recited this dua himself and taught it to his Companions.
These four things are the calamities the believer should fear most. The punishment of Hell is the greatest fear of the hereafter; the punishment of the grave is the first stage after death; the trial of life comprises the things in this world that harm faith; the trial of death is the fear of losing faith at the last breath; and the trial of the Dajjal was counted as the greatest trial that will appear in the end times.
In another hadith the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught this dua to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) as well, saying, "O Aishah! Never abandon seeking refuge in Allah from these four things" (Sahih Muslim, Masajid 588). This instruction shows the importance of the dua. The believer's reciting of this dua in every prayer, five times a day, asking to be protected from these four calamities, becomes a means of keeping his faith and his awareness of the hereafter alive.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell. Protect me from the severity of the Fire and from the dread of remaining in it. Guard me from the punishment of the grave, from the distress of the grave and from the hard questions of the angels of interrogation. Protect me from trials that would harm my faith in this life, from excessive love of the world, and from falling into misguidance. Grant me that I depart with faith at the moment of death. Guard me from the trial of the Dajjal, from the calamities of the end times, and from every kind of trial, O Lord. Amin.
