Allahumma Salli:
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﴿﴾ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ﴿﴾ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
Allahumma Barik:
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﴿﴾ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ﴿﴾ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
Allahumma Salli: Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad. Kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm. Innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.
Allahumma Barik: Allāhumma bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad. Kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm. Innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.
Allahumma Salli: O Allah! Bestow Your mercy upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You bestowed Your mercy upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Hamid (worthy of all praise) and Majid (possessor of glory and honour).
Allahumma Barik: O Allah! Grant goodness and blessing to Muhammad and to the family of Muhammad, just as You granted them to Ibrahim and to the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Hamid, Majid.

Narrated by Ka'b ibn Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Companions said to the Prophet: "O Messenger of Allah, Allah has taught us how to send greetings of peace upon you. Now teach us how to send blessings (salat) upon you." Thereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them the Salli and Barik duas. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Tafsir Surah 33/10, Anbiya 10, Da'awat 31-32; Sahih Muslim, Salat 65-66, 69; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Tafsir Surah 33/23)
Ka'b ibn Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: When the noble Companions asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) how salawat should be sent upon him, he taught them these duas himself. In the Noble Qur'an, Allah Most High commanded the ummah to send salawat, saying, "Indeed Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe! Send blessings and greetings of peace upon him with complete submission!" (al-Ahzab 56). This ayah announces Allah Most High's mercy towards our Prophet and the fact that the angels pray for him; and it presents this salat to the believers as something they themselves need.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "On the Day of Resurrection the closest of people to me will be the one who sent the most salawat upon me" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Salat 327). This hadith shows that salawat is not merely a dua but a means of nearness to our Prophet in the hereafter. The Salli and Barik duas, recited after the Tahiyyat in salah (prayer), are sunnah in the final sitting of the obligatory prayers, in the witr prayer and in the emphasised (muakkadah) sunnah prayers. According to the Hanafi school salawat in salah is sunnah, while according to the Shafi'is it is obligatory.
O Allah, send Your mercy and Your blessing upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Immerse his family, his Companions and his ummah in Your mercy too, just as You bestowed Your favour upon Ibrahim and his family. Make me also one of Your servants who send salawat. On the Day of Resurrection grant me nearness to our Prophet and the attainment of his intercession, O Lord. Keep my tongue forever occupied with Your remembrance and with blessings upon him. Amin.
