اَلتَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ ﴿﴾ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ﴿﴾ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ﴿﴾ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ ﴿﴾ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
At-taḥiyyātu lillāhi wa-ṣ-ṣalawātu wa-ṭ-ṭayyibāt. As-salāmu ʿalayka ayyuhā an-nabiyyu wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. As-salāmu ʿalaynā wa-ʿalā ʿibādillāhi aṣ-ṣāliḥīn. Ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allāh wa-ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa-rasūluh.
All duas, all praises, and all bodily and material acts of worship belong to Allah the Exalted. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught this dua to his Companions as he would teach a surah of the Qur'an. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Adhan 148, 150; Sahih Muslim, Salat 55-56; Sunan Ibn Majah, Iqamat as-Salat 24)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "When you sit after every two rak'ahs, say 'at-taḥiyyātu lillāhi…'" (Sahih Muslim, Salat 24; Sunan Abi Dawud, Salat 122). In earlier days, when the noble Companions sat in the salah they used to say, "Peace be upon Jibril, upon Mika'il, upon so-and-so and upon such-and-such." Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them this dua and made it known that when the Tahiyyat is recited in the sitting, it reaches every righteous servant of Allah in the heavens and on the earth (Sahih al-Bukhari, Adhan 148).
According to what is transmitted in some works of tafsir and fiqh, the Tahiyyat dua reflects an intimate exchange connected with the night of the Mi'raj. On the night of the Mi'raj the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) honoured Allah Most High with the words Tahiyyat, Salawat and Tayyibat; and He responded with the words of peace, mercy and blessings. In the face of this favour he received, the Prophet wished that peace be upon all the prophets and the righteous servants; thereupon all the angels pronounced the testimony of faith (al-Qurtubi, III, 425; Ibn Nujaym, I, 342-343).
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When you have said or done this, your salah is complete." This hadith shows that the Tahiyyat dua is directly connected with the completion of the salah. According to the Hanafis, reciting the Tahiyyat in every sitting is obligatory (wajib); according to the Shafi'is and the Hanbalis, the obligatory duration of the final sitting is the length of the Tahiyyat plus enough time to send blessings upon the Prophet.
O Allah, I bow before You and offer You my greeting of peace. May blessings and peace be upon Your Messenger, and may Your mercy and Your blessing be upon him. Remember us together with Your righteous servants, and grant us too the peace You granted them. Place the light of the testimony of faith in my heart. Increase my attachment to You and to Your Messenger. Accept my salah and make my acts of worship acceptable. For the sake of the night of the Mi'raj, make this sitting a means of nearness to Your presence, O my Lord. Amin.
