Transliteration

Uʿīdhuka bi-kalimāti'llāhi't-tāmmāti min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmatin wa min kulli ʿaynin lāmmah.

Meaning

I seek refuge for you in the perfect words of Allah, from every devil, from every noxious creature, and from every evil eye.

Kaynak

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3371 (sahih (authentic) hadith).

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). (Sahih al-Bukhari, Anbiyaʾ 10/3371; Sunan Abi Dawud, Tibb 19/3383)

Virtue
Virtue

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Muʿawwidhatayn (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas) against being struck by the evil eye, and he advised his Companions to recite them as well (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Tibb 16; Sunan Ibn Majah, Tibb 32).

The evil eye means a person causing harm to another by their gaze. It is also called "being struck by the eye." In the Qur'an: "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil of the night when darkness settles, and from the evil of the one who casts the evil eye when he envies" (al-Falaq 1-5).

To be protected from the evil eye: it is recommended to recite Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas morning and evening, to recite this dua over one's children and loved ones, and to say "Mā shāʾa'llāhu lā quwwata illā bi'llāh."

Dua in English

I seek refuge for you in the perfect words of Allah. Protect you from every devil, from every noxious creature, and from the evil eye. Guard my loved ones, my property, my offspring and my health from the evil eye. Make Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas an armour for us. Preserve us from the evil of jealous glances and of those given to envy, O Lord. Amin.
