The hatim dua is the dua made when a complete reading of the Noble Qur'an from beginning to end (the hatim) is finished. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made dua when he completed the Qur'an and stated that such duas would be answered.

The phrase "Ṣadaqa'llāhu'l-ʿAẓīm" (Allah has spoken the truth) is said at the end of every surah of the Qur'an and when the hatim is completed. It is an acknowledgement that the speech of Allah is true.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the Qur'an (completed it), he would recite it back and forth with Jibril (peace be upon him). They completed it once every Ramadan, and twice in the year in which he passed away" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sawm 7; Sahih Muslim, Siyam 42).

The hatim dua includes these themes: praise and thanks to Allah, salawat upon the Messenger of Allah, the request that the Qur'an be made a light and a healing, the forgiveness of sins, and the request for well-being in this world and Paradise in the Hereafter.

Dua in English

Allah the Most High has spoken the truth. Praise be to Allah, who granted us the completion of the Qur'an. Make this Qur'an a light for our hearts, a radiance for our eyes and a healing for our illnesses. Forgive our sins, O Lord. Amin.
