Source: Sahih Muslim 2191 (sahih hadith).

Virtue
Virtue

It is recommended to recite it seven times. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon a sick person he would say seven times, 'Asʾalu'llāha'l-ʿaẓīma Rabba'l-ʿarshi'l-ʿaẓīmi an yashfiyak'" (Sahih Muslim, Salam 13).

The following dua is also recited while placing the hand on the forehead or the head of the sick person: "Allāhumma Rabbanā adhhibi'l-baʾsa ishfi anta'sh-shāfī lā shifāʾa illā shifāʾuka shifāʾan lā yughādiru saqamā." Its meaning: "O Allah! O our Lord! Remove this illness and grant healing. You are the One who heals. There is no healing but Your healing. Grant a healing that leaves no illness behind."

Dua in English

O Allah, Most High, Lord of the Mighty Throne! Remove the illness of this sick servant of Yours and grant him healing. Give Your healing in full and leave no trace behind. Heal his body and give patience to his heart. Make this illness an expiation and a means of mercy for him. You alone are the One who heals; there is no healing but Yours, O Lord. Amin.
