أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللّٰهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti'llāhi't-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
Source: Sahih Muslim 2708 (sahih (authentic) hadith).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua for protection from harmful creatures. (Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 43/2708; Sahih al-Bukhari, Badʾ al-Khalq 11)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised reciting this dua against harmful creatures such as snakes, scorpions and vermin, in places where one camps, passes through or resides.
"Whoever says, in the place where he spends the night, 'Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti'llāhi't-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq,' nothing harmful that reaches that place can harm him" (Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 43/2708).
This short and powerful dua expresses taking refuge in Allah's "perfect words." The "perfect words" are Allah's names, attributes and decrees, which are complete and flawless. Nothing that has been created can overcome the protection of these words.
It is recommended to recite this dua when entering the house, when going to bed at night, while travelling, and at any moment of danger.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of everything He has created. Protect us from the harm of snakes, scorpions and every kind of venomous creature. By night and by day, at home and outside, preserve us from dangers seen and unseen. Make every place in which we stay safe for us, O Lord. Amin.
