اَللّٰهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allāhumma'kfinī bi-ḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmika wa aghninī bi-faḍlika ʿamman siwāk.
O Allah! By what You have made lawful, keep me safe from what You have forbidden. By Your bounty, leave me in need of no one besides You.

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Daʿawat 26/3563; Musnad Ahmad I/153)
A slave who had contracted to buy his freedom came to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I do not have the means to pay my debt; help me!" Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Shall I teach you a dua that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me? Even if you had a debt the size of a mountain, Allah would enable you to pay it: say 'Allāhumma'kfinī bi-ḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmika wa aghninī bi-faḍlika ʿamman siwāk'" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Daʿawat 26/3563).
The most blessed earning is lawful earning gained by the sweat of one's brow. The Qur'an says: "Truly there is nothing for man except what he has worked for" (an-Najm 39). When asking for sustenance, it is very important to specify that it be lawful.
This dua is the shortest and most effective dua for lawful sustenance. It is recited to be freed from debt, to ask for blessing, and for ease in one's livelihood.
O Allah! By Your lawful provision keep me safe from what You have forbidden. By Your bounty leave me in need of no one besides You. Bless my sustenance; make what is little sufficient, and when it is plentiful grant me the ability to give thanks. Grant lawful provision to my family, to my children and to those I am obliged to support. Free me from the burden of debt, O Lord. Amin.
