O Allah! We place You at their throats (against them), and we seek refuge in You from their evils.
Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 5090 (hasan (good) hadith).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua whenever a group of people was feared. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Adab 104/5090; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Daʿawat 118/3588)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Companions to recite this dua whenever an enemy or a harmful group was feared. This dua means placing Allah before the enemy as a protection and taking refuge from their evil.
The expression "We place You at their throats" is figurative. It means that we make Allah our shield and take Him as our protector. This is the finest expression of trust in Allah.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised reciting this dua whenever one feels helpless before a group or an overwhelming power. The dua gives confidence to the heart and asks for Allah's protection.
O Allah! We place You before our enemies as our protector, and we seek refuge in You from their evil. Protect us from the hand of the oppressors, and protect the oppressed. Protect our community from discord and division. Even if people abandon us, do not forsake us. Grant us to stand on the side of the truth, and give our hearts assurance, O Lord. Amin.
