رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Rabbi lā tadharnī fardan wa-anta khayru al-wārithīn.
My Lord! Do not leave me alone. You are the best of inheritors.

This dua is ayah 89 of Surah al-Anbiya in the Noble Qur'an. It is the sincere supplication that Zakariyya (peace be upon him) made to his Lord in order to have a child.
Zakariyya (peace be upon him) longed for a child despite his old age. His wife too was old and barren. Humanly speaking, it did not seem possible for him to have a child. But Zakariyya set no limit to Allah's power and prayed without giving up hope. In the Noble Qur'an it is said: "And remember Zakariyya, when he called out to his Lord: 'My Lord! Do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors'" (al-Anbiya 89).
Allah the Exalted accepted the dua of Zakariyya: "So We answered his dua and gave him Yahya, and We made his wife fit for him (able to bear a child). Truly they used to hasten to good deeds and call upon Us in hope and in fear" (al-Anbiya 90).
The courtesy in Zakariyya's dua is striking. He did not say directly "give me a child"; he said "do not leave me alone." Then, by saying "You are the best of inheritors," he expressed that Allah would be enough for him even if He did not give him a child. This dua is a very effective one for anyone who wishes for a child, who is weighed down by loneliness, or who wishes to attain a desire.
My Lord! Do not leave me alone. Grant me a good progeny and righteous children. You are the best of inheritors. Accept my dua as You accepted the dua of Zakariyya. Take away my loneliness and grant me good companions, a good family and righteous offspring, O my Lord. Amin.
