رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī faghfir lī.
My Lord! I have wronged myself, so forgive me.

This dua is ayah 16 of Surah al-Qasas in the Noble Qur'an. It is the dua of repentance that Musa (peace be upon him) made to his Lord after he struck and killed a Copt in Egypt.
Before prophethood had come to him, Musa (peace be upon him) struck a Copt while defending one of the Children of Israel, and the man died. This happened unintentionally. Musa immediately felt regret and turned to his Lord, saying: "Rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī faghfir lī" (My Lord! I have wronged myself, so forgive me) (al-Qasas 16).
The answer of Allah the Exalted is most beautiful: "So He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful" (al-Qasas 16). As soon as Musa was forgiven, he prayed: "My Lord! For the favour You have bestowed upon me, I will never again support the guilty" (al-Qasas 17).
This dua is the shortest and most concise form of repentance. In four words the admission of fault (ẓalamtu nafsī) and the request for forgiveness (faghfir lī) come together. Everyone who wrongs his own soul, who errs, who sins, should read this dua. Just as Allah's forgiveness is without limit, the door of repentance for the servant is always open. Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All the children of Adam err, and the best of those who err are those who repent" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Qiyamah 49).
My Lord! I have wronged myself, I have made mistakes, I have harmed myself with sins. Forgive me and encompass me with Your forgiveness. Forgive me as You at once forgave Musa. Accept my repentance and do not let me fall into the same sins again. Your forgiveness is without limit and Your mercy encompasses all things, O my Lord. Amin.
