اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَالْعَمَلَ الَّذِي يُبَلِّغُنِي حُبَّكَ ﴿﴾ اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي وَأَهْلِي وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka ḥubbaka wa ḥubba man yuḥibbuka wa-l-ʿamala lladhī yuballighunī ḥubbak. Allāhumma jʿal ḥubbaka aḥabba ilayya min nafsī wa ahlī wa mina l-māʾi l-bārid.
O Allah! I ask You for Your love, for the love of those who love You, and for the deed that will bring me to Your love. O Allah! Make Your love dearer to me than my own self, than my family, and than cold water.

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Daawat 71/3490; Sunan Ibn Majah, Muqaddimah 12; Musnad Ahmad II/325)
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray: 'O Allah! I ask You for Your love, for the love of those who love You, and for the deed that will bring me to Your love'" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Daawat 71/3490).
A request for love in three stages: first Allah's love is asked for, then the love of those who love Allah, and then the deeds that will lead to this love. For whoever loves Allah, Allah loves him too. One must be together with those who love Allah and follow their path. "O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with the truthful" (at-Tawbah 119).
The words "Make Your love dearer to me than my own self, than my family, and than cold water" recall how precious cold water is in a waterless desert. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked that the love of Allah be held above these worldly blessings. This is the summit of mahabbatullah (the love of Allah).
The love of Allah is the servant's greatest station. "He loves them and they love Him" (al-Ma'idah 54). Reciting this dua constantly makes the love of Allah grow green in the heart.
O Allah! I want Your love. I want also to love those who love You. Grant me deeds that will bring me to Your love. Make Your love sweeter to me than my own life, than my family, than the sweetest water. Make my heart love You with passion, O Lord. Amin.
