O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of Hell, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Dajjal.

Kaynak

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1377 (sahih (authentic) hadith).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua in salah (prayer) after the closing salutation. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Jana'iz 87/1377, Da'awat 34/6365; Sahih Muslim, Masajid 129/589)

Virtue
Virtue

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised seeking refuge with Allah from these four things in salah (prayer), after finishing the tahiyyat and before giving the salutation: "When any one of you sits in the tashahhud during the prayer, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things: from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of Hell, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Dajjal" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Jana'iz 87/1377; Sahih Muslim, Masajid 129).

The punishment of the grave: this is the possibility of being questioned by the angels in the grave after death and of undergoing punishment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The grave is the first of the stations of the hereafter" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Zuhd 5/2308).

The punishment of Hell: this is the greatest punishment of the Day of Resurrection. All the prophets and the believers have sought refuge with Allah from the punishment of Hell.

The trial of life: these are tests in this world such as wealth, position, desire and love of the world. The trial of death: this is Satan's final whispering during the death agony, and the danger of dying without faith.

The trial of the Dajjal: this is the trial of the Dajjal, who is among the major signs of the Last Hour. If the Dajjal appears, all believers must seek refuge with Allah from his evil.

It is a sunnah to recite this dua in the prayers before the salutation. It may also be recited morning and evening, and at any time.

Dua in English

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of the fire of Hell, and from the afflictions of life and death. Make our grave a garden of Paradise. Grant that we utter the testimony of faith as our souls depart. Grant that we answer the questioning angels correctly. Fill our grave with light and protect us from Your punishment, O Lord. Amin.
