اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ وَمِنْ دَعْوَةٍ لَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿilmin lā yanfaʿ wa min qalbin lā yakhshaʿ wa min nafsin lā tashbaʿ wa min daʿwatin lā yustajābu lahā.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that feels no awe, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a dua that is not answered.

Narrated by Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this dua. (Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 73/2722; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Da'awat 68/3482; Sunan an-Nasa'i, Isti'adhah 18)
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: 'O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that feels no awe, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a dua that is not answered'" (Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 73/2722).
This dua consists of seeking refuge in Allah from four evils:
Ilm la yanfa' (knowledge that does not benefit): This is knowledge that is learned but not put into practice, not acted upon, and not sought for the sake of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray, "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit" (Sahih Muslim, Dhikr 73). Beneficial knowledge is knowledge that brings a person nearer to Allah and increases his deeds.
Qalb la yakhsha' (a heart that feels no awe): A heart that has no fear of Allah, that does not soften, that has grown hard. Khushu' is the turning of the heart to Allah and its fear of Him in salah (prayer), while reading the Qur'an, and in worship.
Nafs la tashba' (a soul that is never satisfied): A soul that is never satisfied with worldly wealth, position and desire, and whose greed keeps increasing. A soul without contentment, always wanting more, drags a person into error.
Da'wat la yustajabu laha (a dua that is not answered): A dua made by one who eats unlawful food, who earns unlawful income, or which is made in heedlessness, is not answered. For a dua to be answered, lawful food and a sincere heart are needed.
These four things are among the most dangerous things that ruin a person's
happiness in religion and in this world. Reading this dua morning and evening is very important for being protected from these afflictions.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit. Protect me from knowledge that I learn but do not act upon. Preserve me from a hardened heart that feels no awe. Keep me far from a soul that is never satisfied and whose greed keeps increasing. Accept my dua and protect me from a dua that is not answered, O my Lord. Amin.
