Bu duayı Türkçe oku

Transliteration

Meaning

Kaynak

Source: al-Hakim 1/531 (hasan (good) hadith).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua. (al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) I/531; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Da'awat 69/3489)

Virtue
Virtue

This dua consists of seeking refuge with Allah from four kinds of "munkar" (evil):

Munkarat al-akhlaq (bad character): bad traits such as arrogance, envy, miserliness, rage, lying, backbiting, slander, namimah (talebearing) and riya (showing off). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I was sent to perfect good character" (Muwatta Malik, Husn al-Khuluq 8). Good character is what completes faith.

Munkarat al-a'mal (bad deeds): these are sinful acts; foremost among them are forbidden things such as theft, fornication, false oaths, alcohol, gambling and usury. If a person's deeds are bad, his hereafter is ruined.

Munkarat al-ahwa (bad desires): the evil cravings of the lower self, whim and caprice. These are harmful desires such as lust, love of the world, ambition for rank and passion for fame. The ayah "Have you seen the one who takes his own desire as his god?" (al-Jathiyah 23) shows the danger of following one's whims.

Munkarat al-adwa (bad diseases): both bodily and spiritual illnesses. Spiritual diseases such as hardness of heart, obsessive whispering and despair are included in this too.

This comprehensive dua protects four dimensions of a person: character (akhlaq), deeds (conduct), desire (the inner world) and health (the body). It is recommended to recite it morning and evening.
