اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا وَعَنْ شِمَالِي نُورًا وَفَوْقِي نُورًا وَتَحْتِي نُورًا وَأَمَامِي نُورًا وَخَلْفِي نُورًا وَاجْعَلْ لِي نُورًا
Allāhumma jʿal fī qalbī nūran wa fī baṣarī nūran wa fī samʿī nūran wa ʿan yamīnī nūran wa ʿan shimālī nūran wa fawqī nūran wa taḥtī nūran wa amāmī nūran wa khalfī nūran wa-jʿal lī nūrā.
O Allah! Give light to my heart, give light to my eye, give light to my ear. Give light to my right, light to my left, light above me, light below me, light before me, and light behind me. Bestow upon me a great light.

This dua is the famous Dua of Light that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited in the night prayer and in the morning prayer. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) transmitted it, saying, "This was one of the duas of the Prophet" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Daawat 9; Sahih Muslim, Musafirin 181).
The words "Wa-jʿal lī nūrā" (Give me a great light) are a request for an all-encompassing light above all the lights that have been asked for. This is the light of truth, which is the summit of faith. The light of the heart, the light of insight, and the light of hearing are all gathered in this final request.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this dua, known as the "Dua of Light," in the tahajjud and in the morning salah (prayer). To ask for light in every direction is the believer's request that his life be surrounded with light on every side. Whoever recites this dua is illuminated with Allah's light, is protected from darkness, and grows in insight.
O Allah! Give the light of faith to my heart. Give the light of insight to my eye. Give the light of wisdom to my ear. Surround me on every side with light. Bestow upon me a great and all-encompassing light. Illuminate the darkness with light and show me my way with light, O Lord. Amin.
