Asʾaluka bi-kulli smin huwa laka sammayta bihī nafsaka aw anzaltahū fī kitābika aw ʿallamtahū aḥadan min khalqika awi staʾtharta bihī fī ʿilmi l-ghaybi ʿindak, an tajʿala l-Qurʾāna rabīʿa qalbī wa-nūra ṣadrī wa-jalāʾa ḥuznī wa-dhahāba hammī.

Meaning

O Allah! I am Your servant. I am the child of Your male and female servants. My forelock (my whole being) is in Your hand. Your judgement concerning me is carried out. Your decree concerning me is justice itself. I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You have named Yourself, by every name You have sent down in Your Book, by every name You have taught to one of Your creation, and by every name You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen: that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my breast, the remover of my sadness, and the dispeller of my anxiety and grief.

Kaynak

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 6369 (sahih (authentic) hadith).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recommended reciting this dua at times of sorrow and grief. (Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Musnad Ahmad I/391, 452; al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) I/509; Ibn Hibban, Sahih III/253)

Virtue
Virtue

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If any sorrow or anxiety befalls a servant and he recites this dua, Allah will show him a way that removes his sadness and anxiety, and will give him relief in its place" (Musnad Ahmad I/391). When the Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah! Should we not learn it?", he said, "On the contrary, everyone who hears it should learn it" (Musnad Ahmad I/391).

In this dua servanthood is expressed as follows: I am Your servant (servitude), my forelock is in Your hand (submission), Your judgement concerning me is carried out (acceptance), Your decree is justice (contentment). Then the dua is made by four kinds of Allah's names: those by which He has named Himself, those He has sent down in His Book, those He has taught to His servants, and those known to Him alone.

Four things are requested: that the Qur'an be the spring of the heart (rabi'a qalbi), the light of the breast (nura sadri), the remover of sadness (jala'a huzni), and the dispelling of grief (dhahaba hammi). When the Qur'an becomes the spring of the heart and the light of the breast, sorrow and grief depart of themselves.

Dua in English

O Allah! I am Your servant, the child of Your servants. With all that I am, I am in Your hand. Your judgement concerning me is carried out; Your decree is justice itself. By every name that is known to You, make the Qur'an the spring of my heart and the light of my breast. Remove my sadness, take away my grief. Grant me relief, O my Lord. Amin.
