Allāhumma anjiz lī mā waʿadtanī. Allāhumma āti mā waʿadtanī. Allāhumma in tuhlik hādhihi'l-ʿiṣābata min ahli'l-islāmi lā tuʿbad fi'l-arḍ.
O Allah! Fulfil the promise You made to me! O Allah! Grant me the victory You promised! O Allah! If You destroy this band of the people of Islam, no one will be left on earth to worship You!
Source: Sahih Muslim 1763 (sahih [authentic] hadith).
Narrated by Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made this dua at the Battle of Badr. (Sahih Muslim, Jihad 58/1763; Sahih al-Bukhari, Maghazi 4)
Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "On the day of Badr the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at the polytheists — they were a thousand men. His companions were three hundred and thirteen. He turned at once towards the qiblah and raised his hands. He began to call upon his Lord aloud: 'O Allah! Grant me the promise You made to me! O Allah! Grant me the victory You promised. O Allah! If You destroy this band of the people of Islam, no one will be left on earth to worship You!' He continued his entreaty with his hands outstretched until his cloak fell from his shoulders" (Sahih Muslim, Jihad 58/1763; Sahih al-Bukhari, Maghazi 4).
Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him, placed the cloak back on his shoulders and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Your entreaty to your Lord is enough. Allah Most High will certainly fulfil His promise to you." At that moment Allah Most High sent down this ayah: "Remember when you were seeking help of your Lord, and He answered your dua saying, 'I will certainly reinforce you with a thousand angels, rank upon rank'" (al-Anfal 9). Allah helped the believers with His angels.
This dua is one of the most powerful duas, read in times of great difficulty, in the face of oppression, and when victory is sought.
O Allah! Fulfil Your promise. Grant the Muslims victory and bring the oppressors to ruin. Do not destroy this ummah; make Islam mighty upon the earth. Help us with Your angels and scatter the enemies, O my Lord. Amin.
