Dua to Recite While It Is Raining

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw rain, he would say 'Allāhumma ṣayyiban nāfiʿan' (O Allah! Send a beneficial rain)" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Istisqa 22). This short but comprehensive dua asks Allah both that the rain be beneficial and that it fall without causing harm.

After it had rained, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, "We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Istisqa 27; Sahih Muslim, Iman 125). In the age of ignorance people would attribute rain to the stars and say, "It rained thanks to such-and-such a star." The Prophet corrected this and declared that rain falls only by the grace and mercy of Allah.

In the Noble Qur'an it is stated: "He is the One who sends down the rain after they have despaired, and who spreads out His mercy" (Shura 28). The time of rain is one of the blessed moments when dua is accepted. The Prophet advised making good use of this time for dua.
