اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ
Allāhumma laka l-ḥamdu anta kasawtanīhi. Asʾaluka khayrahu wa-khayra mā ṣuniʿa lahu. Wa-aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi wa-sharri mā ṣuniʿa lah.
O Allah! All praise is Yours; it is You who clothed me with it. I ask You for its good and for the good of using it in accordance with the purpose for which it was made. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and from the evil of its being used contrary to the purpose for which it was created.

Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put on a new garment, he would name it (turban, shirt or cloak) and recite this dua. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Libas 1; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Libas 28)
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put on a new garment, he would name it, saying turban, shirt or cloak, and pray, 'Allāhumma laka l-ḥamd...'" (Sunan Abi Dawud, Libas 1; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Libas 28). The Prophet always fulfilled his praise and thanks for every blessing bestowed by Almighty Allah. He also advised us to do this and taught us where and how to make dua.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wear a new garment for the first time on a Friday, because Friday is regarded as a weekly festival for the believers. Our Master always dressed cleanly and carefully, but on festival days in particular he would wear his newest and most valuable garments.
Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Prophet saw a shirt on Umar and asked, "Is this shirt new, or has it been washed?" When Umar said, "It is a washed shirt, O Messenger of Allah!" our Master said, "Wear it new, live praising Allah, and die a martyr" (Musnad Ahmad II, 89). Asking for the good of a garment and seeking refuge from its evil also expresses the request that it not be made into a means of arrogance and display.
O Allah, You are the One who has bestowed this new garment on me. All praise is Yours. Make it good and blessed. Grant me every good there is in wearing it, and protect me from arrogance and display. Grant me to live praising You and to die in a way pleasing to You. I ask that the true garment that adorns me be the garment of taqwa (taqwa (mindfulness of Allah)), O Lord. Amin.
