Kaynak

Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 142 (sahih hadith).

Narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the toilet, he would recite this dua. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Wudu 9; Sahih Muslim, Hayd 122; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Taharah)

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to enter the toilet, he would say 'Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina l-khubuthi wa-l-khabāʾith'" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Wudu 9). This hadith shows that the Prophet preserved his awareness of taking refuge in Allah even in the most private moments of life.

The word "khubuth" refers to the male jinn, and "khabāʾith" to the female jinn. Private places such as toilets have been regarded in Islam as haunts of the jinn and devils. For this reason the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised entering with the left foot, leaving with the right foot, and reciting this dua.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The screen between the jinn and the private parts of people is saying Bismillah when entering the toilet." This narration shows that Bismillah is a protective shield.

Dua in English

O Allah, I enter this place in Your name. I seek refuge in You from the evil of the male and female devils. Preserve me from every kind of wickedness and from the evil of impure beings. Grant me the ability to remember You and to take refuge in You in every state, O Lord. Amin.
