Allāhumma innī asʾaluka khayrahā wa-khayra mā fīhā wa-khayra mā ursilat bih. Wa-aʿūdhu bika min sharrihā wa-sharri mā fīhā wa-sharri mā ursilat bih.

Meaning

O Allah! I ask You for the good of this wind, the good of what is in it and the good of what You have sent with it. I take refuge in You from its evil, from the evil of what is in it and from the evil of what You have sent with it.

Kaynak

Source: Sunan Abi Dawud 5097 (sahih (Sahih Muslim, Istisqa 15)).

Narrated by Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). When the north wind grew strong the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua. (Sahih Muslim, Istisqa 15; Sunan Abi Dawud, Adab 5097; Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Fitan 66)

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates: "When the wind grew strong the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this dua" (Sahih Muslim, Istisqa 15). In another of his hadiths our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not curse the wind, for the wind is under Allah's command. When you see a wind you dislike, say: 'O Allah, we ask You for the good of this wind, the good within it and the good of what is sent with it. We take refuge in You from its evil, from the evil within it and from the evil of what is sent with it'" (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Fitan 66).

The wind is one of Allah's soldiers. Sometimes it brings mercy, sometimes it is sent as a punishment. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: "When our Master saw wind his face would change and he would become uneasy. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, people rejoice when they see wind; why do you become anxious?' He said, 'I fear that my community may be struck by punishment'" (Sahih Muslim, Istisqa 16). These narrations show the importance of not taking natural events lightly and of taking refuge in Allah.

Dua in English

O Allah, I ask You for the good of this wind. Grant us the beauty, the blessing and the cleansing that are in it. I take refuge in You from its evil, from what is harmful in it, and from its turning into disaster. Make the wind a means of mercy and blessing, not a means of punishment and chastisement. Make us among Your servants who see Your power in the events of nature, O Lord. Amin.
