اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي حَسَّنَ خَلْقِي وَخُلُقِي وَزَانَ مِنِّي مَا شَانَ مِنْ غَيْرِي
Short text:
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَأَحْسِنْ خُلُقِي
Full text: Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi lladhī ḥassana khalqī wa-khuluqī wa-zāna minnī mā shāna min ghayrī.
Short text: Allāhumma aḥsanta khalqī fa-aḥsin khuluqī.
Full text: All praise be to Allah, who made my form and my character beautiful, who kept away from me the ugliness found in others and made me beautiful.
Short text: O Allah, You made my form beautiful, so make my character beautiful too.

Narrated by Ibn Mas'ud and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked in the mirror he would recite these duas. (al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab IV, 111; Musnad Ahmad 3823; Ibn Hibban 959)
When our master the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked in the mirror he would say, "All praise be to Allah, who made my form and my character beautiful, who kept away from me the ugliness found in others and made me beautiful" (al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab IV, 111). This dua acknowledges that both physical beauty and beauty of character are a blessing from Allah.
In Arabic the word khalq denotes a person's physical creation, while khuluq denotes character. The similarity in sound between the two words points to the deep connection between them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The heaviest thing on the believer's scale will be good character" (Sunan Abi Dawud, Adab 7). And in the Noble Qur'an it is said of the Messenger of Allah, "You are indeed of a sublime character" (al-Qalam 4).
Looking in the mirror is a moment when a person checks his outward appearance. The Messenger of Allah adorned even this moment with dhikr and dua. In the dua, the phrase "who kept away from me the ugliness found in others" teaches that a person should be grateful for the beauty granted to him and should not fall into pride by comparing himself with others.
O Allah, You created my form beautifully; all praise be to You. Make my character beautiful too, illuminate my heart, and keep my tongue occupied with what is good. I thank You for not creating in me the shortcomings found in others. Make me one of Your servants who are good-natured, merciful, patient and grateful. Beautify my inward self as You have my outward self, O Lord. Amin.
